Wall Town

 

Walltown was a member of the manor of Henshaw in the liberty of Tynedale.  It was fined as a vill in the Iter of Wark for 1279.  In 1314-15 Walltown was one of twelve towns of South Tynedale to claim exclusion from Wark manor.  The Hearth Tax of 1666 indicated 15 houses remained in the township.  Only four buildings were shown on the Military Road map of 1749.  The settlement has since declined to a single farmstead.  No earthworks seen in the vicinity of the farm

Cumberland, yeoman; Wallerby Grayme of Standgarthe, Co. Cumberland, yeoman.; broke into and burgled the dwelling of Oswold Rydley of Walltown between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., and stole from him a brown cow worth 40s. and four brown heifers worth 20s. each.
